Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus has spoken over phone with the editors of Prothom Alo and The Daily Star following attacks on the two media outlets on Thursday night.
In separate conversations with Prothom Alo Editor Matiur Rahman and The Daily Star Editor Mahfuz Anam, Prof Yunus expressed deep sympathy, saying the unexpected and reprehensible attacks on the institutions and their journalists had deeply saddened him.
He said the government stood firmly beside the two media houses during this difficult time.

Describing the incidents as assaults on press freedom, the chief adviser warned that such actions posed a serious threat to independent journalism and Bangladesh’s democratic progress.
Prof Yunus assured the editors of full security and all necessary government support, adding that he hoped to meet them in person soon.
