Coordinators of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement (ADSM) announced on Monday that they are going to form a new student political party with the slogan- “Student first, Bangladesh first”.
They announced this at a press conference at Dhaka University’s Madhur Canteen on Monday afternoon.
The coordinators said that they will launch online and offline campaigns at colleges and universities across the country seeking suggestions on the formation of the party, its name, principles and other factors.
Both the campaigns will start tomorrow.
Coordinator Abdul Kader said that their anti-discrimination platform is an umbrella organization where the general students, leaders, activists from other political parties came together for the greater interest of the country’s well being and to oust the fascist government.

“After the revolution, the activists of the political parties returned to their place, but those who didn’t have any political identity, have nowhere to return,” he said.
Kader added, “We’ve decided to form a centrist political party for those who want to do politics and continue with us. The committee could be declared within a week.”
Another coordinator Abu Baker Majumder said, “The name and launch date of the organisation have not yet been finalised and will be fixed by the survey process. To abolish fascist system, all people and student organizations gathered under the umbrella of anti-discrimination student movement. We believe that Anti-Discrimination Student Movement will end its activity after fulfilling the July uprising pledge- new political settlement and abolition of fascist system. Those who own the July uprising and want to do sophisticated visionary politics have taken the initiative.”
The press conference was joined by Rifat Rashid, Hasib Al Islam, Tahmid Al Mudassir, Abdullah Saleheen Ayon, Jahid Ahsan among others.
Notably it lacked any presence of figures associated with the Jatiyo Nagorik Committee (Janac or JNC), who are also expected to launch a new political entity in the days ahead, leading some analysts to describe the group announced today as a breakaway party.
