Traffic movement in several parts of the capital will be diverted on Thursday morning to facilitate the movement of dignitaries attending the first session of the 13th Parliament at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban.
The President, the Prime Minister, members of parliament, foreign diplomats, leaders of various political parties and other dignitaries are expected to attend the session, according to a notice issued by the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).
Due to the event, a higher volume of vehicles is likely to pass through Urojahaj Mor, Khejur Bagan, Manik Mia Avenue, Asad Gate and the July Memorial Museum (Ganabhaban) intersection, which may cause temporary traffic congestion in nearby areas.
To ease traffic flow, the DMP Traffic Division will regulate vehicular movement through diversions from 8:00 am to 11:00 am on Thursday.
Under the arrangement, vehicles travelling from Indira Road towards Begum Rokeya Sarani via Urojahaj Mor will not be allowed to turn right. Instead, they will have to proceed straight through Manik Mia Avenue and Mirpur Road to reach their destinations.
Similarly, vehicles moving from Manik Mia Avenue towards Begum Rokeya Sarani via Khejur Bagan will not be permitted to turn left and will be redirected through Farmgate.
During the specified period, vehicles will be allowed to move one-way southbound on both sides of the road from Urojahaj Mor to Khejur Bagan.
The DMP urged drivers to follow traffic instructions to avoid congestion and ensure smooth movement of vehicles.
Police also sought cooperation from city residents during the time.
