Hasnat Abdullah, chief organiser (South) of the National Citizen Party (NCP), said voters could not cast their votes in past three elections conducted by the Awami League administration.
He criticised the "Awami League administration," asserting it lacked the ability to hold a transparent and acceptable election. “We are not confident of acceptable elections until this administration is reformed," he said.
Speaking as the chief guest at an iftar event organised by the NCP in Cumilla’s Shasongacha on Wednesday, Hasnat urged the interim government to organise local government elections in five or six phases as a test for the administration's transparency.
Hasnat also said that extortion, tendering, land grabbing, and pond grabbing have already started. Those who are usurpers and extortionists should be punished and handed over to the police, he added.
He further claimed that there is a conspiracy abroad aimed at rehabilitating the Awami League, with various political parties seeking to benefit from the upcoming elections.
"Just as two swords cannot be in one sheath, the Awami League cannot be with the NCP in Bangladesh after August 5," he said.
