A delegation of newly formed “Amar Bangladesh Party’, better known as AB Party, paid a courtesy call on Charles Whiteley, Ambassador of the European Union (EU) delegation to Bangladesh in Dhaka on Wednesday.
The delegation led by the party’s Member Secretary Mojibur Rahman Monju, Joint Member Secretary Asaduzzaman Fuaad, women’s affairs in-charge Nasreen Sultana Mily were present at the meeting while Sebastian RIGER-BROWN, First Secretary (Political) from the EU delegation, also joined the event, said a media release.

The party thinks that the failure lies with the current government and the Election Commission to create an atmosphere of a level-playing field for a participatory election, which is worth of international observation.
The party delegation also observes that a democratic space can’t take shape without having the choice to elect representatives through free, fair, participatory and credible elections.
Despite repeated calls from all including civil society, the government could not reform Digital Security Act to make it more compatible with international standard which inevitably undermines press freedom, it reads.

Along with the election and democracy, the AB party discussed different issues including, Rohingya, RMG, labour rights, sexual harassment, calamities and natural disasters with the ambassador.
The EU is highly appreciated for its assistance in this struggle for a greener world and helping Bangladesh to progress to its next phase.
