Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Friday directed the authorities concerned to take action within 48 hours against six more officials of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) and Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) over failures in waste management, drainage cleaning and dengue prevention measures.
State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives Mir Shahe Alam on Friday night said he received the directive from the Prime Minister.
“The Prime Minister has directed that within the next 48 hours, action must be taken against the chief executive officers, chief waste management officers and chief health officers of both DNCC and DSCC over any failure to ensure garbage clearance, cleaning of drainage and taking necessary measures to prevent dengue,” he said.
The state minister said the Prime Minister also ordered the withdrawal and punitive action against the officials concerned in case of failure to implement the directives.
“We are already working to quickly begin the process of implementing the Prime Minister’s instructions,” he said.
Earlier, two regional executive officers of the both city corporations were removed over negligence in removing sacrificial waste in different parts of the capital following Eid-ul-Azha.
The officials are Md Sadequr Rahman, regional executive officer of DNCC Zone-5, and Kazi Saleh Mostanzir, regional executive officer of DSCC Zone-1. They were attached to the Ministry of Public Administration.
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman personally drove himself through different parts of the capital in the afternoon to inspect the progress of waste removal activities.
During the visit, he expressed dissatisfaction after finding piles of sacrificial waste and old garbage still lying in several areas.
Tarique Rahman then instructed State Minister Shahe Alam, who accompanied him during the visit, to take immediate action against the two regional executive officers.
