Writers, artists and cultural workers gathered for a unique cultural protest in front of Bangladesh National Museum at Shahbagh Saturday, to protest the authorities’ plans to demolish the Chattogram Railway Building, aka Chattogram’s lungs.
The CRB area, that takes its name from the Central Railway Building - built by the British colonial administration in 1872 as the headquarters of the Assam-Bengal Railway - is a scenic, hilly quarter of the Port City known for its Shireesh trees (Albizia Lebeck) Surrounded by centuries-old trees, hills, hills and valleys, this area is home to a variety of species of birds and animals.
Residents of the Port City got a rude shock in July when they came to learn about a hospital at CRB on a signboard that appeared at the intended site.

Their disgruntlement at this news turned into a movement against the hospital planned at CRB, and kept gaining momentum.
The wave of revolt touched the capital too today, as a multi-platform protest program was held today in Shahbagh in solidarity with the Port City residents.
