DMP to fine up to Tk 10,000 for honking near airport, Gulshan, Banani
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) will start taking action against drivers who honk in restricted areas around Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka from January 25.
The DMP issued a notice in this regard on Tuesday.
According to the notice, the government declared certain areas around the airport including a 1.5-kilometre stretch from Scholastica School to Hotel La Meridien as well as Gulshan, Banani, Baridhara, and Niketan as silent zones in September 2025.
Honking in these areas is a punishable offence and violators may face a fine of up to Tk 10,000 or three months in jail.

The DMP traffic division will enforce the rule in the airport area, covering Civil Aviation Authority roads and parking zones.
Special mobile courts will operate under the supervision of the Department of Environment, BRTA, Civil Aviation Authority, Dhaka North City Corporation, and DMP magistrates to impose fines or custodial sentences on offenders.
It also urged the drivers to comply with the Noise Pollution Control Rules 2025 and refrain from honking in the designated areas to maintain a peaceful environment around the airport.
