Mahogany Tree Uprooted in Dhanmondi Amid Rain, Female Passenger Injured
1/6
A massive mahogany tree, standing for nearly 40 years on the side of Road No. 6 in Dhaka’s Dhanmondi area, was uprooted on Thursday due to continuous rainfall and collapsed onto a CNG-run auto-rickshaw and a motorcycle. A female passenger in the auto-rickshaw was reportedly injured in the incident.
Such accidents have become almost routine during the monsoon season in Dhaka, largely due to the lack of adequate soil around roadside trees, preventing their roots from anchoring firmly.
As of Friday (August 1), a visit to the scene showed that while half of the fallen tree had been removed, the damaged auto-rickshaw still lay at the spot.
