President of Estonia Kersti Kaljulaid and UNDP Administrator Achim Steiner, among others, addressed the event.
The duo, particularly Steiner, highly praised the digitisation of Bangladesh, Prime Minister’s Additional Press Secretary Nazrul Islam told reporters.
Steiner said the a2i programme is playing an important role in the development of human resources in Bangladesh.
Speaking at the intervention, Joy presented the present scenario of digitisation of Bangladesh.
He said there was hardly digital technology in Bangladesh before the present government assumed power in 2009. In 2001, there was digital technology partially in 5-6 government offices, he said.
Coming to power, this government put emphasis on four issues -– making government offices digital-based ones, building facilities for digitisation, creating IT workforce and IT industries, said Joy, son of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
He said now the government reached the digital services to even grassroots level through union digital centres. “The private organisations also helped build digital infrastructure under the Public Private Partnership.”
