A 30-year-old man was killed, and 11 others were injured in clashes between two groups of locals over a land dispute at the Chargolgolia area of Sirajdikhan upazila Friday, police said.
The deceased was identified as Falan Mia of Chargolgolia.
Mizanul Haque, officer-in-charge (OC) of Sirajdikhan Police Station, said two groups of locals, followers of Yeakub Mia and Joynal Mia, clashed sporadically with sharp weapons in the afternoon. "The clashes over possession of land left several people injured."
The injured were rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) and different local hospitals. Falan, a follower of Yeakub, was declared dead at DMCH.
Additional police forces have been deployed in the area to bring the situation under control, the OC said.
