Bangla Academy on Tuesday launched the ‘Bangla Academy Font’, developed under the ‘Enriching Bangla Language through Information Technology’ project, as part of an initiative to enrich the use of Bangla in the digital sphere.
The font was unveiled at a programme held at the Shaheed Munier Chowdhury Conference Hall of the Bangla Academy at 3 pm.
Project Director Mahbub Karim, language technology expert Mamun-or Rashid and publication specialist Shahidul Islam attended the programme on behalf of the ‘Enriching Bangla Language through Information Technology’ project.
They formally handed over a specimen of the newly developed ‘Bangla Academy Font’ to Bangla Academy Director General Professor Mohammad Azam.
The font has been developed under the project as part of efforts to further facilitate and enrich the use of the Bangla language in information technology.
With the use of Bangla continuing to expand across digital platforms, education, publishing, media and official communication, initiatives aimed at strengthening the language's presence in the digital environment have gained increasing importance.
The launch of the new font marks another step towards expanding the scope of Bangla language use in information technology.
The programme was held on Tuesday, corresponding to 21 Ashwin 1433 in the Bangla calendar.
