Bangladesh and the United Kingdom on Wednesday agreed to increase bilateral trade, business and investments for mutual benefits of the two countries.
The agreement came from an hour-long meeting held between British High Commissioner to Bangladesh Sarah Cooke and PM’s Principal Secretary M Tofazzel Hossain Miah in the afternoon at the latter’s office here in the city.
The Chief Economist of Foreign-Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) is expected to visit Bangladesh next month in this regard.
During the meeting, different other issues including Rohingya, illegal migration, climate change and energy also came up for discussion, said PM's Assistant Press Secretary MM Emrul Kayas.
The high commissioner assured Dhaka of cooperation to ensure quota-free access of Bangladeshi products to the UK market after its final graduation as a developing nation.
In the meeting, both sides agreed to explore new horizons to enhance economic partnership between the two countries for mutual benefits.
About the Rohingya issue, Cooke said its solution is their repatriation to their homeland, Myanmar.
She highly appreciated the active role and continued efforts of the Bangladesh government to repatriate Rohingya refugees to their motherland in a safe, durable and dignified way.

Tofazzel said the foundation of Bangladesh-Britain relationship was laid during the regime of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
"The relation has now been elevated to a strategic partnership and will be strengthened further in the days to come," he said.
Besides, they discussed crimes committed by the migrated people and both of them wished to help one another to check illegal migration.
