A three-member delegation from volunteer organisation BD Clean paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Tuesday.
During the meeting held at the Prime Minister’s Office in the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban, they discussed the group’s ongoing efforts to build a cleaner Bangladesh, protect the environment and raise public awareness, according to a release issued by the Prime Minister’s Press Wing.
The delegation was comprised of former Chief Coordinators Champa Akter and Zahirul Islam Robi, and current Chief Coordinator Masudur Rahman.
State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives Mir Shahe Alam was also present at the meeting.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister appreciated the contribution of BD Clean volunteers to promoting a clean and liveable Bangladesh and stressed the need to further expand public awareness initiatives.
Founded on June 3, 2016 with a single volunteer, BD Clean has grown into a nationwide volunteer organisation with more than 58,000 members operating in 58 districts and 165 upazilas.
Over the past decade, the organisation has restored 18 canals and seven rivers, developed 76 clean public parks, and has been conducting regular clean-up drives and environmental awareness campaigns across the country.
The BD Clean representatives reaffirmed their commitment to working under the Prime Minister's leadership to help transform Dhaka into a cleaner, more liveable and environment-friendly city.
