Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus on Monday night strongly condemned the mob attack on a book stall at Ekushey Book Fair.
"The attack shows contempt for both the rights of Bangladeshi citizens and for the laws of our country. Such violence betrays the open-minded spirit of this great Bangladeshi cultural fixture, which commemorates the language martyrs who lost their lives on 21 February 1952 in defence of their mother tongue," he said in a statement shared by his Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam.
It’s a powerful message of reconciliation, says Shafiqul Alam about CA’s call
"Today, the Ekushey Boimela is a daily meeting place for our writers and readers," the statement reads.
The interim government has ordered the police and the Bangla Academy to investigate the incident and bring the culprits to book.
