An elderly couple died after being electrocuted at Ladwa village in Chandpur's Faridganj upazila on Monday at noon.

The deceased were identified as Arjun Chandra Pal,65, and his wife Anjali Rani Pal,50 of the area.

Syed Md Morshed Hossain, Deputy Assistant Director of Chandpur Fire Service and Civil Defense, said that a live electric wire fell on the pond near their house. Many fish died and kept floating due to the electrocution.

Around 12:30 pm, Arjun got an electric shock when he went down to the pond to catch the fish.

As his wife came to his rescue, she was also electrocuted, the fire official said.

"The couple died on the spot."

On information, police rushed to the spot and recovered the bodies with help of the rescue team of the fire service, said Pradeep Mondal, OC (Investigation) of Faridganj police station.
