Members of Bangladesh Coast Guard seized 2.54kg of crystal methamphetamine (crystal meth or ice), with a street value of Tk 12.50 crore, from Teknaf in the early hours of Friday.
Acting on a tip off, a team of Coast Guard's Teknaf station conducted a drive in Dorgarchhara area adjacent to Teknaf's famed Marine Drive.
At around 1am, they saw a man with a bag coming from the sea beach. However, sensing the presence of the law enforcers, he abandoned the bag and fled.
The crystal meth was found inside the bag, said Lt. Commander Abdur Rahman, Media Officer of Bangladesh Coast Guard Headquarters.
The consignment was handed over to Teknaf Model Police Station for further action, added Commander Rahman.
Known by its street name ‘ice’, crystal meth is a powerful drug that affects the central nervous system. It comes in the form of clear crystals or shiny blue-white rocks.
