Floods in Cumilla's Titas and Burichang upazilas have claimed the lives of three people, including two children. The two children were residents of Ziarakandi area in Titas Upazila, while the other victim was from Ramnagar area in Burichang Upazila.
Sumaiya Momin, the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Titas, reported that the two cousins, Samia and Ayesha, were swept away by floodwaters on Saturday afternoon while returning home to Ziarakandi from their madrasa in Nayakandi village. Local residents were unable to rescue the girls, and later, firefighters retrieved their bodies. Upon being taken to the Upazila Health Complex, doctors declared both of them dead.
In a separate incident on Friday night, an elderly man named Farid Mia, 60, passed away in Gopinathpur of Burichang Upazila after being trapped in his daughter’s house without access to medical care.
According to locals, Farid Mia, a resident of Ramnagar area, sought refuge at his daughter’s house in Gopinathpur as floodwaters began to rise in his locality. Unfortunately, when he fell ill, he could not be taken to the hospital due to the lack of available boats. His body was eventually recovered on Friday evening and transported to Ramnagar by a BIWTA (Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority) trawler.
