A motorcyclist was killed and another seriously injured in a collision between a motorcycle and a battery-run auto-rickshaw in Sylhet’s Gowainghat upazila on Sunday afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Nazim Uddin, 25, son of late Fattah Miah of Manaura village in the upazila. The injured, Layek, 23, son of Zayed Miah from the same village, is currently undergoing treatment.
Gowainghat Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sarkar Tofayel Ahmed said the head-on collision took place in the Soti area of Lengura union on the Gowainghat-Bangabir road.
Locals rushed both victims to Gowainghat Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared Nazim Uddin dead on arrival. Layek, who sustained injuries, was later transferred to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment.

Both Nazim and Layek were auto-rickshaw drivers by profession and were reportedly heading to Gowainghat on a motorcycle when the accident occurred.
Sub-Inspector Tarikul Islam of Gowainghat Police Station prepared the inquest report and sent Nazim’s body to Osmani Medical College Hospital for autopsy.
“Legal procedures are underway,” the OC added.
