Murder accused held in Narsingdi 3days after his escape from Chattogram jail

Police in a drive arrested a prisoner, who escaped from Chattogram jail, from Ballakandi Char area in Raipur upazila of Narsingdi district.
The arrestee is Farhad Hossain Rubel, of Raipura upazila in Narsingdi district. He was an accused in a murder case.
Tipped off, a team of Chattogram Kotwali Police with the help of Narsingdi Police arrested Rubel from the area in the morning, said officer-in-charge of Chattogram Kotwali Police Station, Mohammad Nezam Uddin.
He is now being taken to Chattogram.
A team of Sadarghat Police Station in Chattogram arrested Rubel from Double Mooring Police Station for allegedly killing a businessman identified as Abul Kalam on February 6.
On February 9, he was sent to jail.
On March 6, Rubel has gone missing from Chattogam central jail.
Jail sources said the absence of the prisoner came to the notice of the jail authorities while calculating the number of prisoners.
Farhad was an inmate of ‘Punishment ward’ of Karnaphuli Bhaban in the jail.
Senior Jail Super of Chattogram Central Jail lodged a general diary with Kotwali Police Station.
Four people including the jailer and deputy jailer have been suspended for negligence of duty.
Two separate probe bodies were formed to look into it.
On Monday, an investigation team visited the jail and inspected the CCTV footage.
DIG Prison (Khulna) Sagir Mia, the head of one of the probe body, said “After seeing the CCTV footage, the investigation team found that prisoner Rubel jumped off the boundary wall of the jail and managed to flee around 5:15 am on March 6.”
