Police Sunday arrested a businessman on the charge of sexually assaulting a ninth-grader in Rangamati's Baghaichhari upazila.
The arrestee was identified as Md Sabuj, 26, a businessman in Chowmuhuni Bazar of the upazila.
The ninth-grader's mother filed a case at the police station under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act, Anwar Hossain Khan, officer-in-charge of Baghaichhari Police Station, said.

The rape survivor's mother said Sabuj formed a romantic attachment with her daughter, a student of a local high school.
"The accused promised to marry her, but he never had any intention to marry. The rape survivor gave consent for sexual relations on the assurance by the accused that he would marry her," according to the case statement.
