A suspected thief died of electrocution while allegedly attempting to steal electric wires from an under-construction building in the capital's Kadamtali area early Thursday.
The deceased was identified as Mohammad Zakirul Islam, 45, of Saghata upazila of Gaibandha.
He had been living at Miru Lane of Kadamtali.

Building owner Ripa claimed that accused Zakirul tried to disconnect the electric supply line of the building, located on Jurain College Road No-1 at Miru Lane to steal electric cables.
The building owner said she spotted Zakirul lying unconscious near the electric connection point around 6:30am and immediately informed Kadamtali police station, claiming that the accused was known to all as a thief in the area.
Faruk, in-charge of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) police outpost, said police took Zakirul to the hospital around 11am where physicians declared him dead upon arrival.
The body was sent to the DMCH morgue for autopsy, Faruk added.
