The BNP has appointed four leaders as members of its National Standing Committee, the party’s highest policy-making body, with a view to strengthening its organisational activities.
According to a press release issued by the party on Saturday, the newly appointed members are Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed, Md Aman Ullah Aman, Farhad Halim and Md Ismail Jabiuallah.
The BNP expressed the hope that the newly appointed leaders would contribute to important decisions concerning the party and the people through their prudent advice, intellect and experience at the party’s highest policy-making forum.
The appointments were made in line with a decision of the party, said the release signed by BNP Assistant Office Secretary Muhammad Munir Hossain.
The National Standing Committee has 19 posts, of which 14 were previously occupied, according to the party.
The existing members are BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman, Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Rafiqul Islam Mia, Mirza Abbas, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, Abdul Moyeen Khan, Nazrul Islam Khan, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, Salahuddin Ahmed, Selima Rahman, Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku and AZM Zahid Hossain.
Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir resigned on Thursday from the post of BNP secretary general and from the party’s National Standing Committee following his nomination as the party’s candidate for the presidential election.
With the addition of the four new members, the number of members of the National Standing Committee now stands at 18.
