A Kushtia court on Sunday directed the local administration to take legal action against the chairman of Durgapur union parishad following investigation for reportedly misappropriating OMS rice for the last four years.
Passing the suo moto order, Kushtia Senior Judicial Magistrate Selina Khatun asked the officer-in-charge of Kushtia Model Police Station to submit a probe report within June 3 in this regard.
The court order came following a report titled ‘Cardholders know nothing although rice withdrawn for four years’ published in a local daily on April 17.
It was alleged that the UP chairman along with his men has been embezzling the OMS rice meant for poor and disadvantaged people for the last four years.
Golam Mostafa, OC of Kushtia Model Police Station, said they were yet to receive the copy of the court order and will take necessary action after receiving it.
