Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Sheikh Mohammad Sajjat Ali on Monday urged police officials to ensure the highest level of neutrality during the upcoming national parliamentary elections, distancing themselves from past allegations of bias.
Speaking at the monthly crime review meeting held at the Bangladesh Police Auditorium in Rajarbagh, the DMP chief emphasized that no member of the force can show favoritism towards any political party, ideology, or individual.
Referring to the recently held DUCSU election as a positive example, he said that a fair and peaceful election is achievable through the concerted efforts of all concerned.
The DMP commissioner also instructed officials to remain vigilant against the organizations, which activities are banned, and to take strict legal action against those attempting to disrupt law and order.
Public involvement key to policing success: DMP Commissioner
Ahead of the upcoming Durga Puja, the top officer of the DMP called on the force to begin preparations to ensure security during the religious festival. Stressing the importance of professionalism, he urged police officers to develop and uphold humane qualities in their service.
At the meeting, DMP Additional Commissioner (Administration) Md. Sarwar said that steps are being taken to modernize the DMP using information technology. As part of the initiative, a video prosecution system has been introduced to penalize traffic law violators.
Additional Commissioner (Crime and Operations) S. N. Md. Nazrul Islam highlighted the need for effective measures to combat mugging in the capital.
He also called for increased patrols after identifying hotspots of mugging incidents and urged action against supporters and financiers of organizations, which activities are banned.

Joint Commissioner (Crime) Md. Faruk Hossain presented an overview of crime statistics in Dhaka for August 2025, covering incidents such as robbery, theft, murder, unnatural deaths, road accidents, violence against women and children, rape, and recovery of drugs and illegal weapons.
The DMP Commissioner also awards awards to officers of various ranks in recognition of their outstanding performance in maintaining law and order during the August month.
