The funerals of four victims from Kushtia, who died when a Souhardya Transport passenger bus sank into the Padma River while boarding a ferry at Daulatdia ghat in Gopalganj’s Goalanda upazila, have been completed. Families and local residents are mourning the tragic loss.

The deceased are Marzina Khatun (56), wife of Abu Bakkar Siddique of Mojmpur village in Kushtia municipality; Ayesha Binte Gias (13), daughter of Giasuddin Ripon of Samsupur village in Khoksa upazila; three-year-old Israfel, son of Delwar Hossain of Dhushundi village in Khoksa; and Rajib Biswas (28), son of Himangshu Biswas of Khagrabaria village in Betbaria union, Khoksa.

Kushtia family dispute ends in tragic strangling of toddler

Marzina Khatun was buried in her native village in Jugia, Kushtia Sadar, after her namaz-e-janaza at 10:30 am. Ayesha Binte Gias was laid to rest in her family graveyard in Samsupur village, Khoksa, following her namaz-e-janaza at the same time. The funeral of Israfel was held at 11 am in Dhushundi village, followed by burial. Rajib Biswas’s funeral took place at 1:30 pm at Shaildangi Maha Shmasan in Khagrabaria, Betbaria union.

The accident occurred on Wednesday (March 25) when the bus, carrying at least 45-50 passengers including the driver and helpers, fell into the Padma River while attempting to board a ferry around 5:30 pm. The bus had departed from Kushtia’s Kumarkhali municipal bus terminal around 2 pm with eight passengers, including children, and picked up more passengers along the way.
