A Lalmonirhat court on Tuesday sentenced a man to death for killing his wife in 2023 over family feud.
Lalmonirhat District and Sessions Judge Md Haider Ali handed down the punishment.
The convict is Atiqul Islam, son of Habibur Rahman of Sadar upazila in Lalmonirhat.
The court also fined him Tk 20,000, in default, to suffer six months more in jail.
According to the prosecution, Atiqul married Mitu Akter in 2021, and the couple had a five-month-old daughter.
The couple used to have altercations over family matters after their marriage.
On September 20, 2023, Atiqul and Mitu had an altercation over the issue and at one stage, Atiqul beat Mitu with a bamboo stick, leaving her dead on the spot.
Atiql later managed to flee the scene.
Hearing the baby girl crying, local people went to the house and found the body of Mitu. They later informed the police, who recovered the body.
A case was filed with Sadar Police Station.
On July 4, 2024, police submitted a chargesheet against Atiqul.
