A 5-year-old boy was killed after a powerful explosion ripped through the house of a local Jamaat leader in Shubhada Uttar Para area in the dead of night on Wednesday.
The deceased was identified as Sizan, 5, who got crushed underneath a wall that collapsed from the force of the blast.
Shah Jaman, the OC of Dakshin Keraniganj Police Station, said according to locals, the blast - that they are convinced was a bomb -occurred at 4am (Thursday morning) on the 3rd floor of the building owned by Jamaat leader Abul Hossain, who has been missing since the incident.
Damage from the blast spread to at least 25 neighbouring buildings. Besides, 11 people were injured.
The source of the blast however could not be confirmed till filing of this report, even though a team of police visited the spot.
Locals claim it was caused by a bomb.
