Gonoforum MP Mokabbir Khan, who was admitted to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH), Dhaka on Monday with breathing problem, has tested positive for coronavirus.
He is now receiving treatment at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the CMH, his personal secretary Mohammad Koyes Miah told UNB on Tuesday.
Koyes said Mokabbir received the Covid-19 test report today confirming that he contracted the deadly virus.
He, however, said the MP’s condition has improved slightly as he has been given oxygen support. “His (Mokabbir’s) breathing problem eased slightly.”
On Monday, Mokabbir was admitted to the CMH with fever, cough and breathing problem.
Soon after his admission, the MP’s samples were collected at the CMH for coronavirus test.
Mokabbir Khan was elected MP from Sylhet-2 with Gonoforum’s ticket in the last general election. He took oath as a member of the 11th Parliament on April, 2019.
In 26 years' history of Gonoforum, Mokabbir is the only leader of the party who became MP with its ticket and symbol.
