Potentially infected people gathered at Mugda Medical College and Hospital on Monday to submit their samples for Covid-19 tests.
With 38 more nationwide deaths from the virus reported on Monday, the death tally from Covid-19 rose to 1,502.
During the period, 3,480 new cases were detected, taking the total number of Covid-19 patients in the country to 115,786 after testing 15,555 samples in the last 24 hours. So far, 46,755 people have recovered from the disease.
Health Minister Zahid Maleque on Monday said the government will take steps to appoint additional 2000 physicians to contain the situation.
The respiratory virus spreads primarily through droplets generated when an infected person coughs or sneezes, or through droplets of saliva or discharge from the nose.
To protect themselves people need to clean their hands frequently with an alcohol-based hand rub or wash them with soap and water.
