President Mohammed Shahabuddin on Tuesday urged the businesspeople to stand against those who are involved in corruption and malpractices.
The greed of a section of unscrupulous businesspeople and their push for growing big overnight are adversely affecting the country's businesses and causing people’s suffering, he said.
The president was addressing an event on the distribution of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Industrial Award 2022 to 12 industrial units at Osmani memorial auditorium in the city.

President Shahabuddin said a section of businesspeople are misappropriating the government incentives allocated for the businesses, producers and importers through false information and documents.
"Honest and good businessmen are facing huge challenges in this environment," he said.
The government will always remain with the honest businessmen, he said adding, "It is not the government's job to do business. The government's job is creating business-and-investment-friendly environment. The government wants to do that only."
The president handed over the awards, crests, money and citations to the awardees to the winners who own heavy, medium, small, micro, cottage and high-tech industries.
A total of 12 industrial units were awarded the ‘Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Industrial Award 2022’ under six categories for their outstanding contributions in respective sectors.

Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun, Agriculture Minister Muhammad Abdur Razzaque, and Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce & Industries (FBCCI) president Mahbubul Alam were present in the ceremony.
Senior Secretary of the Industries ministry Zakia Sultana delivered the welcome speech.
Runner Automobiles Ltd secured the first place, followed by Zaber & Zubair Fabrics Ltd and BSRM Steels Ltd in the large industries category while in medium-scale industries category, Nita Company Ltd secured first position while Noman Terry Towel Mills Ltd got the second position.
Hazrat Amanat Shah Spinning Mills Ltd secured first position, Basumati Distribution Ltd second, and Techno Media Ltd won the third prize in the small-scale industries category.

Besides, Green Genesis Engineering Ltd has been selected in the micro-industries category and Shamsunnahar Textile Mills in the cottage industries category.
Walton Hi-Tech Industries Ltd gained the first place in the hi-tech industries category while Super Star Electrical Accessories Ltd secured the second place in the category.
