Braving rain, thousands of leaders and activists from the three associate bodies of Awami league from across the country have been streaming into the venue for their peace rally — set to start at 3 pm today at the South Gate of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque.
In a show of solidarity, activists and leaders from the three AL wings — Chhatra League, Jubo League and Swechchasebak League — have already reached the capital, carrying banners festoons and placards with a vow to foil “any kind of anarchy” caused by the opposition led by BNP.

While reaching the venue, they were shouting slogans “won’t let arson attacks from BNP-Jamaat like 2013, 2014”, “terrorism won’t be allowed to stop the country’s progress”, and “Bangladesh doesn’t deserve a fugitive and convicted criminal like Tarique Rahman”.
Video posted on AL’s verified Facebook page shows a procession of hundreds of supporters marching towards the venue under the banner “Peace rally to prevent BNP’s chaos and anarchy”. A number of photos of activists standing before the stage were also shared.

Brimming with activists, the adjoining areas of the venue were reverberating with calls from the rally attendees to thwart any attempt of violence and continue the legacy of what they called “a decade of development that changed the course of national progress.”

Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader is scheduled to address the rally, organized by the party’s three associate bodies — Jubo League, Swechchasebak League and Chhatra League — in front of the south gate of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque mosque, 1.7 km away from BNP’s rally at Nayapaltan.
