The Water Authority of Fiji (WAF) said on Wednesday that all its systems across Fiji treat water to the highest level and all drinking water quality is maintained to meet the requirements of the World Health Organisation (WHO) guidelines as well as the Fiji National Drinking Water Quality Standards.
According to Fijivillage news website on Wednesday, the authority said its National Water Quality Laboratory regularly collects and analyses water samples and operational staff ensure compliance to relevant standards.
The announcement came after messages being circulated on social media that WAF has stopped using chlorine and everyone has to boil water to avoid getting sick caused panic among some families.
According to WAF, sometimes because of heavy rains in the catchment, people can experience slight discoloration, however the water, having been through one of their treatment facilities, is safe to drink.
They said that only when test results confirm that discolored water is not safe to drink, then they advise consumers to boil drinking water.
