The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has witnessed an epoch-making success in growing rice in the desert and is looking forward to reshaping the agriculture of the country as well as of the region.
According to Gulf News, a farm in Sharjah is now successfully growing rice what the government termed as potential to shape the future of agriculture of the region.
The pilot project was implemented at a research Centre of the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MoCCAE) in Al Dhaid of Sharjah.
The farmers sowed the seeds in November last year and harvested in three stages last month.
Around 763kg of rice was harvested from each 1,000 square meters.
Two types of rice - Asemi (Japonica) and FL478 (Indica)- were grown experimentally considering the quality of land.
