Police have arrested the driver of an Uber from which film actress Nijhum Rubina jumped out to save herself from an alleged kidnapping attempt. Tipped off, a team of Rampura Police Station, arrested the driver from Rampura area on Saturday night, said Deputy Commissioner of DMP (Media) Talebur Rahman. On January 21, Nijhum jumped out from a car she hailed using Uber, a ride-sharing app used in Dhaka, to escaped from being kidnapped, she alleged. A general diary was lodged with Hatirjheel Police Station in this regard. Pori Moni indicted, faces arrest warrant In a Facebook post following the incident, she wrote othat “I don’t know how to drive and my husband went to his village home. So, I called an Uber to travel from Banasree to Dhanmondi. However, instead of taking the direct road to Dhanmondi, the driver entered the Gulshan area through Hatirjheel. When I asked him about it, he said he was following the location. Be quiet. Despite the roads being empty that day, he drove toward Gulshan at a speed of 80 to 100 km/h." Sensing danger, she jumped out to save herself.  "Feeling suspicious, I told him to stop and let me get out. He responded harshly, telling me to keep quiet. When I realised I was in danger, I rolled down the window and screamed for help, but no one responded. At one point, when the car slowed slightly, I jumped out to save myself,” she wrote.    

Police detained a man for primary questioning after an alleged attempt of kidnapping the bureau chief of Somoy Television in Barishal city on Sunday noon. The detainee is Shahin Hossain Mallik, owner of Mumitu Community Center, the location where the miscreants tried to kidnap the journalist Apurba Apu, said Haridas Nag, Inspector of Barishal Metropolitan Detective Branch of police. The incident occurred around 3 pm in front of Mumitu Community Center at Shitla Khola area in the city. Apurba Apu said he was returning to office on foot after covering an accident news and as he reached near the community center a man on a rickshaw started scolding him for his work. As I ran toward Mumitu Community Center another man tried to take me inside a white private car but I managed to flee,” he said. The journalist reported the matter to police and said he has no idea why the men attacked him. A witness on condition of anonymity told UNB that former local Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) leader Zehad, Mamun, and Alam were among the people who tried to kidnap the journalist.
