16 DIGs sent into compulsory retirement as govt rejigs police leadership
The government has sent 17 senior police officers, including 16 holding the rank of Deputy Inspector General (DIG), into compulsory retirement.
The order was issued on Sunday through a notification from the Home Ministry, signed by its Senior Secretary Manjur Morshed Chowdhury by order of the President.
According to the notification, the police officers have been retired in the public interest under Section 45 of the Government Service Act, 2018. They will receive all retirement benefits as per the rules.
Those retired include DIG of the Anti-Terrorism Unit Mofiz Uddin Ahmed, DIG of Highway Police Imtiaz Ahmed, DIG of CID Md. Habibur Rahman, DIG (TR) at Police Headquarters Saleh Mohammad Tanvir, Director of National Security Intelligence (NSI) Md. Harun-or-Rashid, and DIG of Dhaka Police Staff College SM Akhtaruzzaman.
Besides, Commandant (DIG) of Noakhali PTC Md. Haidar Ali Khan, Commandant of Khulna PTC Md. Mahbubur Rahman Bhuiya, DIG of Tourist Police Md. Ruhul Amin, DIG of Highway Police Md. Rafiqul Hasan Gani, DIG of River Police Md. Mizanur Rahman, and Commissioner of Rangpur Metropolitan Police Md. Majid Ali.
The list further includes DIG at Police Headquarters Kazi Zia Uddin, DIG of Railway Police Md. Golam Rauf Khan, Commandant of Rangpur PTC Sheikh Mohammad Rezaul Haider, and DIG of Highway Police Rakhfar Sultana Khanam.
In the same order, Superintendent of Police (Supernumerary Additional DIG) of Railway Police Farhat Ahmed has also been sent into retirement.
The order, issued in the public interest, takes immediate effect, the notification said.

Three senior police officials sent compulsory retirement
The government has sent three senior officials of the Bangladesh Police on compulsory retirement.
According to separate notifications, issued on January 1, three Additional Inspector Generals (AIGPs) -- Malik Fakhrul Islam, Selim Md Jahangir and WM Belalur Rahman --have been relieved of their duties by the Ministry of Home Affairs.
65 senior police officers, including DIGs and SPs, transferred
The notifications specify that the retired officers will be entitled to post-retirement benefits as per the regulations.

Another SP sent on compulsory retirement
Another police officer of the rank of Superintendent of Police (SP) has been sent on compulsory retirement.
Public Security Division under the Home Ministry issued a notification in this regard signed by its senior secretary Md Aminul Islam Khan on Tuesday.
According to the notice, Md Munir Hossain, special superintendent of Criminal Investigation Department (CID), has been sent on compulsory retirement according to section 45 of Public Service Act, 2018.
The order will come into effect immediately in public interest, the notification said.

Md Munir Hossain, SP, was given attachment with the Police Headquarters as officer on Special Duty (OSD) from CID on July 19, 2011.
Earlier, Md Ali Hossain Fakir, former commanding officer of Armed Police Battalion-3, given early retirement on November 16. Ali Hossain was last attached to Rajshahi Range Police.
Three police officers of the rank of Superintendent of Police (SPs) were given compulsory retirement on October 18. Among the compulsorily retired SPs, Mohammad Shahidullah Chowdhury and Delwar Hossain Mia belong to the 12th batch of BCS police cadre and the other one Mirza Abdullahel Baki, a 15th batch officer of BCS police cadre.

Among them, Muhammad Shahidullah Chowdhury had been working as SP (TR) at Police headquarters, Md. Delwar Hossain Mia and Mirza Abdullahel Baki are working as Special Super (SS) in the CID.
Two more police officers of the rank of Additional Deputy Inspector General (DIG) and three SPs were sent on compulsory retirement on October 31 and October 18 respectively.

According to the notifications separately issued on October 31, Md Alamgir Alam, Additional DIG of CID, and Md Mahbub Hakim, Additional DIG of Tourist Police, were given compulsory retirement according to section 45 of Public Service Act, 2018.
Meanwhile, the government had also sent Additional DIG of CID Sheikh Omar Farooq and Commanding Officer (Superintendent of Police) of 6th APBN of Mahalchari, Khagrachari Mohammad Abdur Rahim on forced retirement on September 2 in last year 2021.

Public admin deputy secretary sent on compulsory retirement
Deputy Secretary AKM Rezaul Karim, former director of Jatiya Grantha Kendra, has been sent on compulsory retirement as he was found guilty in a rape case.
Public Administration issued a notification signed by its senior secretary Mohammad Mezbah Uddin Chowdhury in this regard on Wednesday.

The order will come into effect immediately in public interest, the notification said.
A chargesheet was submitted against Rezaul in a case filed under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act 2000 while he was director of the Grantha Kendra.
On June 25 in 2019, he was suspended.
He later threatened the plaintiff to withdraw the case and another case was filed over threat and physical torture, said the notification.
The Public Administration Ministry initiated a departmental investigation against him and a show cause notice was served on him.

However, the Investigative Officer did not receive a satisfactory reply to the show cause notice.
The ministry later sought opinion of the Public Service Commission and the commission agreed on sending him on compulsory retirement.
President Abdul Hamid later approved decision, reads the notification.

Two police officers of the rank of Additional Deputy Inspector General have been sent on compulsory retirement.
