CIID seizes smuggled goods worth nearly Tk 1cr at Dhaka, Chattogram airports
Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID) officials have seized foreign cigarettes, mobile phones, LCDs, mobile phone motherboards, liquor and gold ornaments worth nearly Tk 1 crore in separate anti-smuggling operations at Dhaka and Chattogram airports over the past two days.
The seizures were made during three separate operations conducted on Monday and Tuesday at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) in Dhaka and Shah Amanat International Airport in Chattogram, according to CIID officials.
At HSIA, an drive was conducted on Monday based on intelligence information after two passengers arrived on Saudi Arabian Airlines flight SV804.
A total of 481 cartons of foreign cigarettes were recovered from their baggage. Of these, 231 cartons were seized from passenger MD Mansur Alam and 250 cartons from Mohammed Nowaj Sharif. The cigarettes were estimated to be worth around Tk 19.24 lakh.
In another operation on the same day, CIID officials searched the baggage of passenger Tipu Al Imran, who arrived from Bangkok on Thai Airways flight TG339.
The officials recovered 36 smartphones that were concealed in a special manner. The consignment included 19 Redmi Turbo 4 Pro and 17 Honor 200 handsets, with an estimated market value of Tk 15.96 lakh.
The officials also recovered 550 mobile LCDs of different brands from the same baggage. The LCDs were estimated to be worth Tk 22 lakh.
In addition, 950 motherboards with displays for button mobile phones were seized, with an estimated value of Tk 14.25 lakh.
During routine patrols, CIID officials also recovered three litres of foreign liquor from an abandoned handbag found near the baggage belt. The liquor was valued at around Tk 60,000.
On Tuesday, a CIID team conducted another operation at HSIA based on intelligence information and detained passenger MD Al Amin while he was crossing the Green Channel after arriving from Bahrain on Gulf Air flight GF248.
A search of his baggage led to the recovery of 18 litres of Johnnie Walker Red Label foreign liquor, estimated to be worth Tk 3.60 lakh.
Meanwhile, in a separate operation at Shah Amanat International Airport in Chattogram on August 31, CIID officials seized 12 cartons of foreign cigarettes, medicines including Rowatinex and Sabril, and 100 grammes of gold ornaments from a passenger who arrived from Dubai on Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight BG148.

Smuggled goods worth Tk 73 lakh seized in Sylhet
Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has seized smuggled goods worth around Tk 73 lakh during separate drives along the Sylhet border, officials said Tuesday.
Based on intelligence information, members of Sylhet Battalion (48 BGB) conducted separate operations in the areas under Kalairag, Pratappur, Sangram, Damdamia and Sonarhat Border Outposts (BOPs).
During the drives, BGB seized a large quantity of Indian medicines, cattle, sarees, chocolates, bidis, betel nuts, vegetables and beer.
The estimated seizure value of the goods is Tk 73.17 lakh, BGB said.
Sylhet Battalion Commander Lt Col Mohammad Nazmul Haque said BGB has strengthened its operations and intelligence activities along the border to ensure security and prevent smuggling and drug trafficking.
Necessary legal action will be taken regarding the seized goods in accordance with the law, he said.

BGB seizes smuggled goods worth Tk 1.9 crore at Sylhet border
The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has seized a large quantity of smuggled goods worth around Tk 1.90 crore in separate operations in the Sylhet border area.
Acting on secret information, the Sylhet Battalion (48 BGB) conducted drives on Sunday in several border areas, including Banglabazar, Kalairag, Minatila, Sangram, Bichnakandi, Pratappur and Sripur, and recovered Indian smuggled goods, said BGB sources.
The seized items include 7,264 kg of cumin, 7,200 pieces of skin bright cream, 2,260 sunglasses, 28,944 packets of biscuits, 3,450 pieces of Klop G cream, 1,701 pieces of gel, 495 kg of snakehead fish, one buffalo, 6,772 pieces of chocolate, 285 kg of betel nut, 345 kg of fuchka, 153 trousers, 585 tubes of toothpaste, 100 kg of sugar, 20 cubic feet of stone, one truck, one motorcycle, one trolley and 41 bottles of Indian liquor.
The estimated value of the seized goods is Tk 1,90,08,070.
Lieutenant Colonel Md Nazmul Haque, commanding officer of Sylhet Battalion (48 BGB), said BGB remains vigilant to ensure border security and prevent smuggling and drug trafficking.
“As part of ongoing efforts, a significant amount of illegal goods has been seized. Legal action will be taken as per rules regarding the confiscated items,” he added.

BGB seizes smuggled goods worth Tk 56 lakh in Kurigram
Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) members seized smuggled goods including drugs worth Tk 56 lakh from different borders in the district in 24 hours till Saturday morning.
According to BGB sources ,a team of Kurigram Battalion (22 BGB) conducted drives at different places and seized the goods.
The seized goods include mobile phone displays, a motorcycle and various types of narcotics.
Commander of Kurigram Battalion (22 BGB) Lt. Col. Mohammad Mahbub-ul-Haq said that BGB is following zero tolerance policy as per instructions its headquarters to prevent drug and smuggling in border areas.
The members of the battalion are continuously performing their duties with utmost vigilance, efficiency and professionalism to ensure border security, prevent smuggling and prevent illegal infiltration, he added.

BGB seizes smuggled goods worth Tk 162.52 cr in Jan
Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have seized arms, ammunition, drugs and other contraband items worth Tk 162.52 crore during anti-smuggling drives across the country, especially in bordering areas in the month of January.
During the period, the paramilitary force seized 4.1369 kgs of gold, 4.529 kgs of silver, 210 grams of diamond, 3,05,820 cosmetics items, 1,037 imitations jewelry, 10,187 sarees, 3,995 three-piece/shirt-piece/bed-sheet/blankets, 2,698 meter unstitched fabric, 7,288 readymade garments, 9,65,461 firecrackers, 4,350 cft timber, 4,262 kgs of tea leaves, 15,665 kgs of betel nuts, 4,20,352 kgs of sugar, 2,356 kgs of fertilizer, 2,641 packets of seeds, 82, 125 kgs of coal, 730 cubic feet stones, 1,602 mobile displays, 49,500 glasses, 1,07,225 kgs fruits, 30,837 kgs of garlic, 19,495 kg of cumin, one touchstone statue, nine trucks, twelve pickups, four private cars/microbuses, two trolleys, 43 boats, 34 CNG/easybikes, 53 motorcycles and 19 bicycles, said a BGB media release signed by its Public Relations Officer Md Shariful Islam Sunday.

The seized weapons consist of three pistols, two air guns, one rifle, one magazine, one auto-air rifle, one shot gun and 24 rounds of ammunition.
The seized drugs and narcotics include 14, 89, 270 pieces of Yaba tablets, 2.130 kgs of crystal meth ice, 8.09 kgs of heroin, 426 grams of cocaine, 28,500 bottles of Phensidyl, 18,655 bottles of foreign liquor, 181 liters of Bengal liquor, 498 cans of beer, 1,760 kg of cannabis, 1, 77, 917 packets of cigarettes, 48,835 narcotic tablets/injections, 4,642 bottles of Iscaf syrup, 609 bottles of Mkdil/Cofidil, 7,69,372 different types of medicine and 92,464 Enegra/Senegra tablets, according to the release.
Meanwhile, legal action has been initiated against 163 alleged smugglers, 308 Bangladeshi nationals and 18 Indian citizens for illegally crossing the border during this period.
Besides, 1,538 Myanmar nationals have been repatriated following their detention, according to the press release.

The seized weapons consist of one pistol, one air gun, one rifle, five magazines, one mortar shell, one grenade, one rocket launcher and 14 rounds of ammunition.
The seized drugs and narcotics include 2, 66, 262 pieces of Yaba tablets, 1.790 kgs of crystal meth ice, 6.267 kgs of heroin,
28,913 bottles of Phensidyl, 18,324 bottles of foreign liquor, 592 liters of Bengal liquor, 921 cans of beer, 1,093 kg of cannabis, 1, 02, 800 packets of cigarettes, 41,299 narcotic tablets/injections, 3,524 bottles of Iscaf syrup, 5.788 kgs of cocaine, 1,230 bottles of Mkdil/Cofidil, 37,11,547 different types of medicine, 77,892 Enegra/Senegra tablets, and 12 bottles of LSD, according to the release.
Meanwhile, legal action has been initiated against 208 alleged smugglers, 426 Bangladeshi nationals and 18 Indian citizens for illegally crossing the border during this period.
Besides, 772 Myanmar nationals have been repatriated following their detention, according to the press release.

Smuggled goods worth Tk 121.58 cr seized in September: BGB
Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has seized smuggled goods, arms, ammunition and drugs worth Tk 121.58 crore across the country in September.
The seized drugs include 8,31,594 Yaba pills, 3.141 Kg crystal meth, 19,797 bottles of phensidyl, 15,202 bottles of foreign liquor, 795 liters of local liquor, 2,680 cans of beer, 2,206 kg cannabis, 2.16 kg heroin, 21,098 injections, 6,620 Eskuf syrups, 755 bottles of MkDil/Cofidil, 2,85,267 Anegra/Senegra tablets, 9,61,524 different types of medicines and 97,350 tablets, said a BGB media release on Sunday.
Other smuggled items include 31.851 kg gold, 8.400 kg silver, 1,83,470 cosmetics, 1,063 imitation jewelries, 19,956 sarees, 2,930 three-piece/shirt-piece/bed-sheet/blankets, 2,105 readymade garments, 2,347 cft timber, 4,502 kg of tea leaves, 40,850 kg of coal, 5 touch stone made statues, 491 kg of pesticides, 56 motorcycles, 5 private cars/microbuses, 10 pickup vans, 24 CNG/battery autorickshaws.

Seized arms include three pistols, one revolver, seven guns, 16 rounds of ammunition, three magazines and 588 kg explosive like substance.
Meanwhile, BGB arrested 223 smugglers, 86 Bangladeshi nationals and four Indian nationals who tried to cross the border illegally.

Smuggled goods worth Tk 137 crore seized in July
Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) members seized smuggled goods, ammunition and drugs worth around Tk 137 crore in different drives in July.
The drugs seized by BGB included 11,00,262 Yaba pills, 12.4 Kgs of Crystal Meth (Ice), 3.1 kgs of heroin, 2,538 kgs of hemp, 31,174 bottles of Phensedyl, 14,633 bottles of foreign liquor, 344 liters of local liquor, 4,721 cans of beer, 4,16,301 packets of cigarettes, 536 kgs of tobacco leaves, 19,272 injections, 6,714 bottles of Eascof syrup, 1,000 bottles of Macdil Syrup, 16,695 Sanagra tablets and 5,08,214 other tablets, said a press release.

Besides, 582 kgs of gold, 26 kgs of silver, 1,75,646 cosmetics items, 3,814 imitation jewelleries, 10,076 Sarees, 1,397 other clothing items, 1,092 pieces of readymade garment items, 1,027 cubic feet of timber, 8,359 kgs of tea leaves, 1,31,700 kgs of coal, 441 kgs of fishing nets, 15 touchstone idols, five trucks and covered vans, five private cars and microbuses, six pick up vans, 32 CNG-run auto-rickshaws and easy bikes and 70 motorcycles were among the seized goods.
BGB also seized 24 weapons, five magazines, 28 rounds of bullets, 1 portal shell, 1 rifle barrel and 31 empty bullet shells.
Besides, legal action has been taken against 260 smugglers, 362 Bangladeshi citizens and 23 Indian citizens for crossing the border illegally during this period, said Md Shariful Islam, public relations officer of BGB headquarters.

Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized smuggled goods, arms, ammunition and drugs worth Tk 131.58 crore across the country in June.
The seized drugs include 11,78,286 Yaba pills, 5.35 Kg crystal meth, 29,876 bottles of phensedyl, 11,667 bottles of foreign liquor, 127 liters of local liquor, 2,482 cans of beer, 2,949 kg cannabis, 8.4 gm heroin, 36,573 injections, 5,400 Eskuf syrups, 521 bottles of MkDil/Cofidil, 8,221 Anegra/Senegra tablets, 92,406 different types of medicines and 93,111 tablets, said a BGB media release on Sunday.
Other smuggled items include 18.89 kg gold, 5 kg silver, 86,423 cosmetic items, 2,552 imitation jewelries, 10,145 sharees, 9,379 three-piece/shirt-piece/bed-sheet/blankets, 5,249 readymade garments, 1,210 cft timber, 4,909 kg of tea leaves, 31,600 kg of coal, 5 touch stone made statues, 770 bottles of pesticides, 3 trucks/covered vans, 5 private cars/microbuses, 3 pickup vans, 35 CNG/battery autorickshaws.

Members of Border Guard Bangladesh(BGB) have seized smuggled goods, ammunition and drugs worth around Tk 132 crore through drives at different places of the country including in border areas in May.
Among the drugs seized by the BGB are-- 12,13,171 Yaba pills, 7,898 Kgs of Crystal Meth(Ice), 1,885 kgs of heroin, 3,150 kgs of hemp, 22,067 bottles of Phensedyl, 12,588 bottles of foreign liquor, 3,960 cans of beer, 2,148 kgs of Marijuana, 2,80,639 packets of cigarettes and Bidi, 835 kgs of tobacco leaves, 51,137 injections, 5,696 bottles of Eascof syrup, 1,031 bottles of Mcadyl syrup, 6, 4,400 Sanagra tablets and 68, 963 other tablets, said a press release.

Besides, 14,585 kgs of gold, 35,274 kgs of silver, 71,959 cosmetics items, 18,786 imitation jewelleries, 9,526 Sarees, 1,800 pieces of other clothing items, 466 pieces of readymade garments items, 1,942 cubic feet of timber, 5,536 kgs of tea leaves, 49,600 kgs of coal, 111 kgs of fishing nets, a statue made of precious stone, five trucks and covered vans, four private cars and microbuses, seven pick up vans, 25 CNG-run auto-rickshaws and easy bikes and 84 motorcycles were among the seized goods.
BGB also seized 31 weapons, two magazines, 84 rounds of bullets and 116 kgs of explosives.
Besides, legal action has been taken against 227 smugglers, 163 Bangladeshi citizens, nine Indian citizens and one Afgan citizen for crossing the border illegally, said Public Relations Officer of BGB Headquarters Md Shariful Islam.
