LCOY celebrates International Youth Day
The Local Conference of Youth (LCOY) Bangladesh, a national platform to amplify youth voices in climate governance, celebrated the International Youth Day on Tuesday.
The event was held at the Department of Environment under the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) in Agargaon, Dhaka, said a press release.
LCOY Bangladesh 2025 is the official Local Conference of Youth recognized by YOUNGO, the youth constituency of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). The programme brought together young people from diverse regions of Bangladesh, including climate-impacted communities who have migrated to Dhaka, to share pressing urban climate challenges and present community-driven solutions.
National, International Youth Day to be observed Tuesday
The event was inaugurated by Dr. Md. Kamruzzaman ndc, Director General, Department of Environment, MoEFCC as the Chief Guest. Mr. Ziaul Haque, Director, Department of Environment, MoEFCC, Ms. Roufa Khanum, Assistant Director, C3ER, BRAC University, Mr. Sakiul Millat Morshed, Executive Director, SHISUK, Ms. Tasaffy M Hossain, Founder & Managing Director, Bonhishikha and Sumaiya Binte Selim, Coordinator for Gender and Youth Programme and researcher, ICCCAD was also in the opening ceremony to launch the LCOY national work.
During the discussion, panelists highlighted the crucial role of youth in localizing global climate ambitions into actionable, community-driven realities. They emphasized that the National Youth Climate Statement to be submitted to the UNFCCC Presidency through YOUNGO must reflect the lived experiences, priorities, and innovative solutions emerging from youth communities across the country.
