Voting peaceful overall, only minor incidents reported: Home Adviser
Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury on Thursday said voting was progressing in a free, peaceful and festive atmosphere, apart from a few stray incidents.
He made the remarks while speaking to reporters after casting his vote at the Baridhara Scholars International School and College polling centre in the capital’s Baridhara area around 10:00am.
The Home Adviser reiterated his commitment to ensuring that the election is held in a free, fair, peaceful, acceptable and festive environment.
Highlighting the vital role of journalists in holding free, fair and credible national elections, he said accurate reporting by the media had helped counter propaganda and misinformation spread by certain Indian outlets.

“If the media presents factual news during the national election, it will help prevent rumours and disinformation. I am confident that the media will provide accurate and objective coverage in this election,” he added.
Later, the adviser visited the Central Coordination Cell for law and order at the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Operations Control Room at Police Headquarters.
