Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) detained former DG of Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI) Lieutenant General (retd.) Sheikh Mamun Khaled from the capital’s Mirpur area late Wednesday night. DMP Additional Commissioner and DB Chief Shafiqul Islam said tipped off, he was detained during a raid at a house at Mirpur in the city. He said he is an accused in several cases including a case filed with Mirpur Police Station in connection with the July-August 2024 movement. It has not yet been decided under which case the DGFI chief will be shown arrested, he said . According to intelligence sources, allegations against Sheikh Mamun Khaled include involving DGFI in political activities, his controversial role during the 1/11 period, and irregularities related to the Jolsiri housing project. Earlier, in May last year, a court imposed a travel ban on Sheikh Mamun  and his wife Nigar Sultana following a petition by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). At the time, the ACC said it was probing allegations of financial irregularities and assets against them.
