Former speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury detained in Dhaka
The Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police detained former Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury from her residence at Dhanmondi in the capital early Tuesday.
Deputy Commissioner of DMP (Media) NM Nasiruddin said she was detained from her Dhanmondi residence early in the morning.
It is yet to be confirmed in which case she will be shown arrested, he said.
The former Speaker was wanted in several cases filed with different police stations.
The further details regarding the cases and legal proceedings will be disclosed later, he added.
Former Speaker Shirin Sharmin resigned on September 2, 2024, 27 days after the fall of Sheikh Hasina’s government.
Abdul Hamid was elected Speaker after the Awami League came to power in the 2008 elections. Following his election as President, Shirin Sharmin was elected Speaker on April 30, 2013.
Shirin Sharmin was a Member of Parliament from Rangpur-6 constituency.
