Russian Envoy presents Stenin Award to photographer Suman
Chargé d'Affaires of Russia to Bangladesh Ekaterina Semenova has presented the award to the first prize winner of Andrei Stenin International Press Photo Contest Mohammed Suman.
Suman is a photojournalist based in Chittagong, working at the Daily Kalbela newspaper. He has been a photographer for more than 10 years. It is the second time Mohammed Suman took part in the Andrei Stenin Contest.
His first prize winning photograph named ‘Children of Chittagong are playing on piles of dirt’ depicts a group of boys playing cricket on the site of drain renovation works, said the Russian Embassy in Dhaka.

His other photograph titled ‘Praying in the Field’ received Jury Honorable Mention. The main character of the photo is a daily laborer praying amidst sandbags.
Andrei Stenin International Press Photo Contest is an annual contest named after a special photojournalist of Rossiya Segodnya media group, who died in southeastern Ukraine in August 2014.
The goal of the contest is to support young photographers aged from 18 to 33 in their pursuit of professional excellence. Every year talented professionals from different countries of the world, including Bangladesh, participate in the competition.

Ambassador of Russia to Bangladesh Alexander Khozin has said Russia as the country that suffered the most from the horrors of the World War II and the Great Patriotic War, for the sake of restoring peace on the continent, will never allow the lessons of the past to be forgotten.
This year, Russia together with its allies is celebrating the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War against Nazi Germany.
The Embassy of Russia in Bangladesh hosted a reception at a city hotel on the occasion of the Victory Day on Sunday evening.
This year celebrations carry special significance since they mark the 80th anniversary of the Victory of the USSR in the Great Patriotic War on May 9, 1945.
Sattar Mia, Head of the National Group company and President of the Russian Friendship Society with Bangladesh, delivered welcome remarks.
The Ambassador highlighted the decisive role of the USSR in defeating Nazi Germany and liberating Eastern and Central Europe.
"Any attempts to distort the historical truth, to whitewash Nazi criminals and their accomplices, to diminish the role of the Soviet people in the victorious end of the war are blasphemous and must be stopped", he stressed.
