A 35-year-old woman was killed and her son injured in an attack by some miscreants at Shibpur in Sadar upazila of Bhola district early Saturday. The deceased was identified as Nasima Begum, second wife of Al Amin, a Bangladeshi expatriate in Dubai while the injured was Abir, 8. Md Ibrahim, additional superintendent of Bhola Police, said a group of miscreants entered the house of Al Amin through the ventilator of the washroom at the dead of night. Later they hit Nasima and Abir with sharp weapons, leaving Nasima dead on the spot and Abir wounded. Hearing screams from Abir, local people rushed in and rescued Abir. He was taken to Bhola Sadar Hospital. On information, police recovered the body and sent it to local hospital morgue for autopsy. Police arrested a suspect, Md Zihad, from the area.              

A 65-year-old woman was killed when a truck knocked down her in Jatrabari area of the capital early Saturday. The deceased was identified as Amena Begum, a resident of Jatrabari area in Dhaka. She hailed from Sadar upazila of Chandpur district. The accident occurred around 2:30 am when the truck hit the woman when she was crossing the road in front of Jatrabari fish market, leaving her critically injured. Later, she was taken to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital where the doctors declared her dead, said Inspector Md Faruk, in-charge of Dhaka Medical College and Hospital police camp. Police seized the truck and arrest its driver.

A 34-year-old woman was killed after being hit by a bus at the Saydabad Railgate area in the capital's Jatrabari on Monday evening. The deceased was identified as Taslima Akter Shahinur, wife of Rashid Bappi and a resident of 73/1 South Jatrabari. She is survived by a son and a daughter. The accident occurred around 7:15 pm when Taslima was travelling in a battery-run auto-rickshaw from her father-in-law’s house in Bangshal, Old Dhaka, towards her home. Youth killed in Dhaka road crash The auto-rickshaw collided with a Tisha Paribahan bus near the Saydabad railway line, leaving her critically injured, her husband Rashid Bappi said. She was rushed to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where the on-duty doctor declared her dead on arrival, Bappi added. Inspector Md Faruk, in-charge of the DMCH police camp, said the body has been kept at the hospital morgue and the matter has been informed to the concerned police station.

A 23-year-old woman was killed and three other people — including her 2-year-old son — also were shot Wednesday on Chicago's South Side, police said. The toddler was hospitalized in good condition after being shot in a foot, as were his 29-year-old father, who also was shot in a foot, and a 62-year-old man, who was shot in the back, Chicago Police Department Chief of Patrol Brian McDermott said in a news conference near the scene in the Auburn Gresham neighborhood. The victims were standing on a sidewalk around 3 p.m. when assailants got out of a vehicle and opened fire before fleeing the scene, McDermott said. The body of an elderly woman was found in her son's house in Parnurulabad village of Naogaon's Manda upazila on Monday night. The deceased was identified as Aklima Begum (60). Police suspect she was killed and have detained her daughter-in-law for questioning. However, Laili Begum, the daughter-in-law of the deceased, said, "My husband is a microbus driver in Dhaka. My mother-in-law used to live with my brother-in-law. I brought her to our house on Thursday." When I returned home on Monday, I found the door locked from the outside. Later with the help of neighbours, I broke open the door only to find the body lying in a pool of blood," she said. Officer-in-charge (OC) of Manda Police Station Shahinur Rahman said the daughter-in-law of the deceased has been detained for questioning in connection with the death.
