BPL Football : Dhaka Abahani Ltd finish runners- up outplaying Brothers Union Club by 3-0 goal
Six-time champions Dhaka Abahani Limited finished runners up in the 10-team Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) Football beating Brothers Union Club by 3-0 goal at the Shaheed Dhirendranath Datta Stadium in Cumilla on Tuesday.
Local defender Asaduzzaman Bablu scored the first goal for the sky- blue Dhanmondi outfit Abahani in the 24th minute (1-0), Brazilian midfielder Raphael Augusto doubled the margin in the 51st minute (2-0) while local forward Mirajul Islam sealed the fate of the match scoring the 3rd goal for Abahani in the 86th minute (3-0).
In the day’s other match, coming from behind, last time champions Bashundhara Kings became 3rd in the league beating Dhaka Wanderers Club by 5-3 goal at their home ground of Bashundhara Kings Arena on Tuesday afternoon.
Striker Shekh Morsalin made a hattrick for the Kings scoring three goal in the 42nd, 45+4th and 66th minutes while forward Rakib Hossain and Mohammad Hossen Rahul scored one each for the Kings.
Midfielder Mohammad Sadik Ahmed, Shahinul Islam Sumon and Manjurul Karim scored one each for the relegated side Dhaka Wanderers Club in the 8th, 49th and 90+4 minutes respectively.

Ghana forward Samuel Boateng made a hattrick scoring three goals while Gambian booter Solomon King Kanform netted the other goal for the old Dhaka outfit Rahmatganj while D Quipapa netted lone goal for the Police FC.
After day's 18th and last round matches, Dhaka Mohammedan emerged champions with 42 points, Dhaka Abahani Ltd finished runners up with 35 points, Basundhara Kings was placed 3rd with 32 points, Rahmatganj MFS finished 4th with 30 points while Brothers Union Club became 5th with 27 points.

Fed Cup Football: Brothers Union Club beat Fortis FC by 1-0 goal
Brothers Union Club beat group leader Fortis FC by 1-0 goal in their 3rd Group A match of the Federation Cup Football’ 2024-25 at the Rafique Uddin Bhuiyan Stadium in Mymensingh on Tuesday.
Midfielder Kawar Ali Rabbi scored the match-winning goal for the Goipbagh outfit Brothers Union in the 36th minute of the match.
In the days’ other match, coming from behind, Bangladesh Police FC defeated all-losers Dhaka Wanderers Club by 2-1 goals at the Bashundhara Kings Arena in the capital on Tuesday.
Defender Mohammad Emon put the Wanderers Club ahead in the 42nd minute from a penalty (1-0) while forward Mannaf Rabbi leveled the margin for Police FC in the 84th minute (1-1)
Another forward Esanur Rahman scored the match-winning goal for Police FC just two minutes later (2-1).
Despite the day’s maiden defeat, Fortis FC dominated the Group A securing seven points from all the four group matches with two wins, one draw and one defeat, defending champions Bashundhara Kings and Brothers Union Club are in the 2nd and 3rd slot respectively securing six points each playing three matches.
With the day’s first win in their 3rd Group A match, Bangladesh Police FC bagged four points from three matches with one win, one draw and one defeat while old horse Dhaka Wanderers Club remained at the bottom with empty hand, also playing three matches.

In the Group B, Rahmatganj MFS and Dhaka Abahani Limited moved into the qualifier stage with two matches to spare securing full six points each from straight two matches eliminating last time runners-up Dhaka Mohammedan SC, Youngmen’s Club Fakirerpool and Chittagong Abahani Limited.
Dhaka Abahani Limited, without any foreign booters, smartly booked seat for qualifiers shocking their traditional rivals Dhaka Mohammedan SC beating them by 1-0 goal in titans battle last Tuesday.
Dhaka Mohammedan SC collected three points from three matches to eliminate from the race with one win and two defeats.
Youngmen’s Club Fakirerpool earned one point from two matches while Chittagong Abahani Ltd also bagged one point playing three matches.

Group A - Bashundhara Kings, Bangladesh Police FC, Fortis FC, Brothers Union Club and Dhaka Wanderers Club
Group B - Mohammedan SC Ltd, Dhaka Abahani Ltd, Chattagram Abahani Ltd, Rahmatganj MFS and Fakirerpool Youngmen's Club.
Top two teams from each of the two groups will play in the meet's next round (qualification and elimination) like the Franchisee cricket league.

Six-time champion Dhaka Abahani Ltd returned to winning run in the second phase of the 13-team Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) Football outplaying lowly Brothers Union Club by 5-2 goals at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Tuesday.
Sky-blue popular Dhanmondi outfit Abahani, which miserably split points with Bangladesh Police FC in 2-2 affairs in their second phase opener, clearly dominated the first half by 3-0 goals against their Gopibagh outfit.
Despite the day's comfortably victory, Abahani remained at the 3rd slot in the league table with 29 points from 14 matches while Brothers Union are struggling to avoid relegation with their previous credit of five points. also from 14 encounters.
