A Supreme Court lawyer appealed to the President and Prime Minister on Tuesday seeking the release of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia.

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal on Monday said the family’s appeal to temporarily release BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia from jail was sent to the Law Ministry for its legal opinion.

Khaleda Zia’s sister Selima Islam on Saturday urged the government to release the BNP chairperson on humanitarian ground as she is sick.

Stating that Khaleda Zia was not granted bail in the Zia Charitable Trust graft case only because of political reason, BNP senior leader Moudud Ahmed on Friday said there is no alternative to waging an effective movement to have her freed.

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Wednesday said their party’s main focus is now on protecting their party Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s life as he alleged that the government is trying to kill her in jail.

As part of the party’s countrywide demonstration programme, BNP will take out a procession in the capital on Saturday demanding its Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s release from jail.
