A three-day exhibition and 'Baishakhi Festival' titled 'Crafting The Many Threads of Cultural Textiles' by renowned designer Maheen Khan concluded on Sunday at EDGE Gallery in the capital’s Gulshan area.
The event featured nearly a hundred handcrafted pieces designed by Khan, including sarees, Nakshi Kantha, Islamic motifs, Rajshahi silk, and modern embroidery—garnering widespread acclaim from fashion enthusiasts and cultural connoisseurs alike.

Maheen Khan’s ‘Crafting The Many Threads' Baishakhi Festival spotlights Bangladeshi textile heritage
Celebrating the Bengali New Year 1432 with elegance and cultural heritage, the three-day exhibition 'Crafting The Many Threads of Cultural Textiles' by celebrated designer Maheen Khan was inaugurated on Friday at EDGE Gallery in the capital's Gulshan.
The event presented by United Commercial Bank PLC (UCB) and powered by Mutual Trust Bank Limited (MTB) is showcasing approximately one hundred collections of the country's eminent fashion designer Maheen Khan.
Curated by prominent fashion designer Saibal Saha, the exhibition is a blend of heritage and innovation, showcasing handcrafted sarees, Nakshi Kantha, Islamic motifs, Rajshahi silk, and contemporary embroidery work.
This vibrant showcase of Maheen Khan's versatile works demonstrates how traditional techniques can evolve into a modern art form.
The opening ceremony was held in two sessions in morning and evening.
Adviser to the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock Farida Akhtar inaugurated the exhibition in the morning and spoke about the deep connection between nature and craft .
Emphasizing the importance of preserving traditional motifs she encouraged artisans to continue drawing inspiration from their environment.
"I encourage you to delve deeper into traditional local motifs like different types of fish, as they reflect our cultural identity. Celebrating Baishakh through crafts, rather than limiting it to rallies, offers a richer and more lasting way to preserve and honor our heritage," Adviser Farida Akhtar said.

Majestic Silks of Bangladesh Exhibition by Maheen Khan: Fashion in silk gets the heritage touch
Showcasing the rich history of Bangladesh's illustrious silk industry as well as efforts to support and promote local designs, a three-day exclusive solo fashion exhibition titled ‘Majestic Silks of Bangladesh Exhibition by Maheen Khan’, is currently underway at the Nordic Club, Gulshan in the capital.
The solo design exhibition began on Tuesday (December 27, 2022), featuring some of the unique designs of eminent Bangladeshi fashion designer Maheen Khan, the founding president of the Fashion Design Council of Bangladesh (FDCB) and the founding managing director of Mayasir, a trend-setting brand that emphasizes the nation's traditional embroidery.
Sharing her motifs and visions with UNB regarding her major solo exhibition in a long time, Maheen Khan said that this event is proudly showcasing some of the exclusive, handmade crafts as a befitting tribute to the country’s majestic silks.

In the era of RMG, showcasing the Majestic Silks of Bangladesh
Highlighting the glorious and rich history of Bangladesh's fantabulous silk industry, eminent fashion designer Maheen Khan, in partnership with HSBC, organised an exclusive fashion show titled ‘Majestic Silks of Bangladesh’ at Gulshan Lake Park in the capital on Saturday.
In cooperation with Gulshan Society, the event showcased trendy fashionwear based on Bangladeshi silk, presented by 50 top models in the country.
The event was joined by cultural personalities and diplomats from various countries including Turkish Ambassador to Bangladesh Mustafa Osman Turan, Indonesian Ambassador to Bangladesh Heru Subolo, and more.

FDCB initiative seeks to protect the artisans, their skills
Basanti Rani, a handloom artist from Sonargaon Upazila of Narayanganj District in Dhaka Division, makes handmade fan from yarns for a living. She lives with her family consisting of her only son, a daughter and a son-in-law. With the crafting assistance of her family members, she runs the family with earnings that come through selling the handmade fans.
