Hadi Murder: Court sets Jan 15 for hearing charges
A Dhaka court has fixed January 15 for a hearing on the acceptance of charges submitted in the murder case of Inqilab Moncho spokesperson Sharif Osman bin Hadi.
Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Jashita Islam set the date on Monday (January 12, 2026) after the plaintiff, Inqilab Moncho member secretary Abdullah Al Jaber, sought additional time to review the chargesheet submitted by the Detective Branch (DB) of police.

Earlier on Sunday, three lawyers were appointed on behalf of the plaintiff. They are Abdus Sobhan Tarafdar, Barrister SM Mainul Karim, and Assistant Attorney General Mustafizur Rahman Mukul.
On January 6, DB Inspector Faisal Ahmed, the investigating officer of the case, submitted charges against 17 accused.
Among the main accused named in the chargesheet are Faisal Karim Masud alias Daud, his associate Alamgir Hossain, Dhaka Metropolitan North Jubo League organising secretary and former ward councillor Taizul Islam Chowdhury Bappi, Philip Snal Philips, Mukti Akter, and Faisal’s sister Jasmine Akter. They are currently absconding.
The remaining 11 accused are now in custody. They include Faisal Karim Masud’s father Md Humayun Kabir, mother Mst Hasi Begum, wife Saheda Parvin Samia, friend Maria Akter Lima, brother-in-law Wahid Ahmed Shipu, rent-a-car businessman Mufti Md Nuruzzaman Nomani alias Ujjwal, close associate Md Kabir, Sibion Dew, Sanjoy Chisim, Md Aminul Islam alias Raju, and Md Faisal, who was arrested with weapons in Narsingdi.
The investigating officer has also sought arrest warrants against the six absconding accused.
Sharif Osman Bin Hadi, who was also running for the Dhaka-8 constituency in the coming election, was shot by assailants on a motorcycle around 2:30pm on December 12 in the Box Culvert Road area of Paltan, sustaining bullet wounds to the head and below his right ear.

He was first taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital and later shifted to Evercare Hospital.
As his condition worsened, he was flown to Singapore by air ambulance on December 15 for advanced treatment, where he died on December 18.

Students block Farmgate intersection demanding justice for Rana murder
Vehicular movement in Farmgate and adjacent areas remained suspended since Sunday morning (January 04, 2026) as students of Tejgaon College blocked road demanding punishment of those involved in the killing of their fellow Sakibul Hasan Rana.
Witnesses said some students of Tejgaon College took to the street around 10 am and blocked the road demanding arrest and punishment of those involved in the killing of Rana.
Tejgaon division Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Rakib Khan said no one involved in the killing of Rana would be spared.

“We have arrested two people in this connection. DB police are investigating the case. Police are trying to identify those involved in the murder after analysing CCTV footage,” he said.
Earlier on December 6, Sakibul Hasan Rana, 18, an HSC second-year student and some of his friends had an altercation with some people as they were taking drugs on the roof of a dormitory of the college.

Ex-mayor, 11 other AL leaders, activists arrested in Dhaka
Detectives have arrested 12 leaders and activists of Awami League and its associate organisations including former mayor of Gafargaon municipality in Mymensingh in separate drives in Dhaka.
They were arrested from different areas including Mirpur, Uttara, Lalbagh, Gulshan, Wari, Motijheel, Cantonment, Darussalam and Demra areas, said Detective Branch (DB) sources on Tuesday.
Kaiser Ahmed, former mayor of Gafargaon municipality, ex-liberation war affairs secretary of central Jubo League, Md Yunus Ali alias Elias, former general secretary of Buramazumdar Union Awami League in Betagi upazila of Barguna, Shamim Osman, a leader from Gazipur Jubo League, Md Mahmud Dewan Shipu, general secretary of ward No-26 in Dhaka South Awami League, Md Jamil Hossain, office secretary of the same unit, and Md Soleman, vice-president of ward No-53 at Krishak League in Dhaka North were among the arrestees.
DB officials said all of the arrestees face several cases including murder.
They were allegedly working in an organised manner to destabilise the country, disrupt law and order, and spread panic among the public, according to DB police.
Legal actions will be taken against them.

3 DB police injured in attack during operation in Bogura
Three policemen were severely injured in an attack on a Detective Branch (DB) team during an operation to arrest an accused in Choksutrapur Haddipotti area of Bogura Sadar on Thursday night.
The incident occurred around 9:30 pm when the DB police team went to arrest Rony, 30, accused of a theft case filed in Shahjahanpur Police Station.
According to the source of police, Rony started shouting for after being detained and around 70-80 people led by fugitive Shapla Khatun and her husband Ashik attacked them sticks, rods and sharp weapons, severely injuring ASI Hasan Ali, two other constables, Modaser Hossain and Sojib Hossain.
Police claimed that Shapla attempted to slash ASI with a machete, at first, and then Constable Modasser which caused serious injury in his left hand.
2 friends killed in Bogura road crash
Constable Sojib was struck with an iron rod causing grave wounds on his back.
On information, additional police led by the Additional Superintendent of Police (Sadar Circle), OC of Sadar Police Station and DB in-charge reached the spot and arrested six people with the help of locals.
They are Rony, 34, Shamim, 60, Israfil Hossain, 40, Kabir Hossain, 24, Behula ,35, and Rubi Begum, 34.
Iqbal Bahar, OC of the district DB Police, said that the attackers attempted to carry out lethal attacks on police.
Efforts are underway to arrest the others.

3 members of fraud question leak gang held in city
Detectives have arrested three members of a fraud gang on charge of cheating people in the name of providing leaked Secondary School Certificate (SSC) question paper.
The arrestees are Karimullah, a second year student of Tongi Government College, Al Rafi Tutul, a second year student of Mohanganj Government College and Abdullah Al Maruf, a third year student of Habibullah Bahar College.

According to a media release of DMP Headquarters, a team of DB police arrested them after conducting several drives in Dhaka’s Uttara, Gazipur’s Pubail and Netrokona’s Mohanganj area on Sunday morning.
The ring used to give advertisement from fake accounts on messengers and Facebook to provide questions of various education boards .
The number of followers of different pages and groups of this fraud gang is 4700, it said.

The arrestees assured the examinees and their guardians that they would provide question paper in exchange of Tk 500-2000 and they received the money in advance through Nagad, Bkash, Rocket with this assurance.
Legal process is underway in this regard, said the release.

Hefazat leader Azharul arrested in Dhaka
Detectives arrested Azharul Islam, former organizing secretary of Dhaka Metropolitan Hefazat-e-Islam, on Tuesday morning.
DMP's ADC Media Iftekhairul Islam said he was arrested from Jatrabari area on sabotage charge.

DB Police said at least 50 Hefazat leaders have so far been arrested on sabotage charges.
