Suspended HSC exams of July 22, 24 to be held on same day: Education Adviser
The postponed Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent examinations scheduled for July 22 and 24 will now be held on the same day, Education Adviser C R Abrar said on Wednesday.
The exam that was supposed to be held on July 22 will be held in the morning, while the postponed exam of July 24 will be held in the afternoon of the same day, he said while talking to reporters at the Secretariat.

However, the specific date for rescheduling these two exams has not yet been decided, he added.
“We will notify the new exam date through an official announcement,” Abrar said.

Tuesday’s HSC exams postponed following plane crash tragedy
The scheduled exams for today (Tuesday) in Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent have been postponed due to the BAF training aircraft crash in Uttara, Information. Youth and Sports Advisers Mahfuj Alam and Asif Mahmud respectively announced it on their verified Facebook accounts early Tuesday.
They made the announcement following a directive from Education Adviser Professor Dr Chowdhury Rafiqul Abrar, read the posts.
“In a meeting with the Education Adviser, the decision to postpone Tuesday’s HSC exams was confirmed,” the posts stated.
The advisers took to social media to announce it around 2:30am Tuesday.
Netizens and students criticized the education boards' initial decision to continue with the exams despite the national tragedy.

The decision followed mounting criticism on social media after the terrible aircraft crash that left dozens dead and many injured.
Investigative journalist Zulkarnain Saer expressed frustration on Facebook, writing, “Where is the Health Adviser? The Education Adviser already said there’s no link between today’s tragedy and the HSC exam. How can he even say that?”
Rifat Rashid, president of Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, also called for postponement, writing: “Postpone tomorrow’s HSC exam, Interim Authority! After such a tragedy, no student is in a state to sit for exams.”
Tuesday’s scheduled exams included Chemistry (Theory) 2nd Paper, Islamic History & Culture 2nd Paper, History or Home Economics 2nd Paper, and Production & Marketing 2nd Paper.

HSC exams being held smoothly: Education Adviser
The Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent examinations are being held smoothly across the country under a safe and secure environment, said Education Adviser Prof CR Abrar on Thursday.
Talking to reporters after visiting the Bhabanitech Government College exam centre in the capital, he said all candidates were wearing masks and maintaining safe distancing during the exams.
Adequate measures have been taken to prevent both COVID-19 and dengue, leaving no room for fear among examinees.

About the question paper leak issue, he said, “There is always a risk, but we remain vigilant as we were during the SSC exams. We hope no dishonest group gets the chance to leak questions. Action will be taken against anyone spreading rumours.”
When asked about flood-related disruptions, the adviser said, “We have contingency plans. If any exam centre is found unsuitable due to the environment, necessary steps will be taken in accordance with the rules.”
He also assured that the standard of the question papers has been properly maintained.
According to the Inter-Education Board Coordination Committee, a total of 1,251,111 candidates are participating under 11 education boards this year.
The exams are being held at 2,797 centres. The first day’s exams started at 10 am and concluded at 1 pm.

HSC selection test to begin from May 30
The selection test for Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) will start in colleges from May 30.
Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board issued a notice in this regard on Thursday.
All the educational institutions have been asked to complete the selection test within June 21.

The decision is applicable for Dhaka, Rajshahi, Jashore, Cumilla, Chattogram, Barishal, Sylhet, Dinajpur, Mymensingh, Bangladesh Madrasha and Technical Education Board and the controller of examinations of Bangladesh Inter-Education Board.
The authorities concerned have been asked to take necessary steps in this regard.

Action if any attempt is made to leak questions: Education Minister
Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni has said that measures will be taken if anyone tries to leak questions of the ongoing Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) exams of 2022.
The Minister said this while talking to reporters after visiting Begum Badrunnesa Government Women’s College exam center in the capital on Sunday.
“We’ve taken action against some people who had tried to leak questions of this year’s Secondary School Certificate (SSC) exams in Kurigram’s Bhurungamari upazila. We’ll collectively prevent such attempts this time too by punishing those who’ll commit such offence,” Dipu said.
The Minister also urged the parents not to stay outside the exam centers as this makes entrance of the examinees difficult.
Replying to a question about coaching centers, she said Coaching centers are needed as it’s impossible for teachers to pay attention to each and every student in the classrooms.

“We hope that the need for coaching centers will decrease once the new curriculum is introduced. However, we’ve given directives to shut coaching centers during public exams. To implement this directive, we need help from the local administrations,” Dipu added.
It was planned to hold this year’s HSC exams in July-August period but couldn’t do so due to flooding in the country’s northeast, she said adding, “If natural disasters hit any part of the country in the future, we’ll postpone exams in that area and hold exams in other areas as per schedule. Later, we’ll hold exams in the disaster-hit area within the quickest possible time.”

SSC exams likely from June 19, HSC from Aug 22
In all likelihood, education boards across Bangladesh will start conducting their secondary and higher secondary certificate exams from June 19 and August 22, respectively.
Registered students will be able to fill up forms for SSC and HSC exams from April 13 and June 8, respectively, according to notifications issued by the Secondary and Higher Education Division of the Education Ministry.

Similarly, SSC and HSC tests are likely to begin from May 19 and July 14, respectively.
SSC and HSC examinees will have a total of two hours to write the exams -- 20 minutes for MCQ and 1 hour and 40 minutes for CQ.

HSC exams: 5 institutions witness 0% pass rate
No student from five educational institutions came out successful in this year’s Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent examinations while all students of 1,934 educational institutions passed the exams.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Sunday published the results of HSC and equivalent examinations 2021, joining a function at International Mother Language Institute virtually from her official residence Gonobhaban.
Among the educational institutions where all have passed, 736 are under nine General Education Boards while 1,003 under Madrasa Education Board and 195 under Technical and Vocational Education Board.

Besides, all five institutions where 100 per cent of the examinees have failed are under nine general education boards.
This year, the average pass rate in HSC and equivalent examinations is 95.26%. A total of 13,06,718 examinees, out of 13,71,681, came out successful in the examinations in all the 11 education boards of the country.
On the other hand, the average pass rate in HSC examination is 95.57% in nine general education boards.
A total of 1,89,169 students secured the highest grade GPA 5. Among them, 1,78,522 examinees got GPA 5 under the nine General Education Boards, 4,872 under Madrasa Education Board and 5,775 under Technical and Vocational Education Board.

A total of 14,03,244 candidates took part in the HSC and equivalent exams from 9,183 educational institutions under 11 education boards in the country.
The HSC and equivalent exams were held on December 02-30 last year with shortened syllabus.

HSC exams begin in Bangladesh
After a delay of nearly seven months due to the pandemic, the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent exams for the academic session 2020-21 began on Thursday, following all Covid-safety protocols.
Some 13,99,690 students are eligible to take the high-stakes exams this year. The number was 13,65,789 last year -- a 2.48% rise.
While 11,38,017 candidates are supposed to appear for the HSC exams under nine general education boards, 1,13,114 are eligible to take the Alim exams under the Madrasa Education Board and 1,48,503 the vocational exams under the Bangladesh Technical Education Board this year.

Besides, 406 students are slated to appear for the HSC exams from abroad. Some 2,621 centres have been designated as HSC exam hubs across the country.

The SSC and equivalent exams that began on November 14 concluded on November 23 while the HSC and equivalent exams will conclude on December 30.

Overdue HSC exams begin Thursday
After a 7-month delay caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and its equivalent examinations for the academic session 2020-21 will begin on Thursday, maintaining health protocols. Some 13,99,690 students are expected to take the HSC and equivalent examinations this year while the number was 13,65,789 last year. The number of candidates has increased by 33,901 with a growth rate of 2.48 percent.

“Concerns are growing as the new variant of coronavirus, ‘Omicron’, has been identified. It’s more infectious. We need to remain very careful,” she told a programme at Chandpur Press Club on Tuesday evening.

The minister, however, expressed dissatisfaction as many people are not wearing masks. “We should follow the hygiene rules and avoid public gatherings to contain the spread of the virus so that we don’t have to postpone the HSC exams.”
