Bangladesh and the United Kingdom on Thursday discussed the possibility of increasing bilateral trade and expanding British investment in Bangladesh, which could create new employment opportunities in the country. The issues came for discussion when British High Commissioner to Bangladesh Sarah Cooke met Prime Minister Tarique Rahman at his Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban office, according to press release issued by the Prime Minister’s Office. During the meeting, the British envoy expressed hope that relations between Bangladesh and the United Kingdom will be further strengthened under the current government. A proposal was made at the meeting for British cooperation in technical educational institutions and training programmes. Sarah Cooke further expressed interest in British investment in the aviation sector after the launch of the third terminal of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. Foreign Minister Dr Khalilur Rahman and Prime Minister’s Adviser on Foreign Affairs Humaiun Kobir were present at the meeting.

Air Chief Marshal Shaikh Abdul Hannan, chief of air staff of Bangladesh Air Force, returned home Wednesday from an official visit to the UK. Air Chief Marshal Shaikh Abdul Hannan's visit is expected to strengthen the Bangladesh-UK ties and enhance the scope of cooperation in the professional sectors. The chief of air staff left Dhaka for the UK on a seven-day official visit at the invitation of Air Chief Marshal Sir Mike Wigston, chief of the air staff of the Royal Air Force, according to the Inter Service Public Relation Directorate. Also, he attended the Global Air Chiefs' Conference 2022 organised by the Royal Air Force in London. The conference included seminars on operational integration, technological adaptation, and digital skills. After that, the chief of air staff attended the world's largest air show Royal International Air Tattoo 2022 at Royal Air Force Fairford. Air Chief Marshal Abdul Hannan also attended the Farnborough International Airshow 2022 in London.

British High Commissioner to Bangladesh Robert Chatterton Dickson on Wednesday said this year is a big year for Bangladesh, and also for the United Kingdom (UK) as a partner, saying that they would hold a series of events to celebrate the “remarkable success” of Bangladesh.
