France lauds Bangladesh for outstanding leadership in UN peacekeeping
The Embassy of France has extended its deep appreciation to Bangladesh for its exemplary leadership and unwavering commitment to UN peacekeeping and peacebuilding efforts.
“Bangladesh’s vital contributions reflect our shared dedication to global peace and multilateral cooperation,” said the embassy on Wednesday as the United Nations marks the International Day of UN Peacekeepers on May 29.
It is a day to honour the dedication, courage, and sacrifice of both uniformed and civilian personnel who serve in some of the world’s most challenging environments to promote peace and stability.
The embassy said France remains strongly committed to United Nations peacekeeping operations.
As a permanent member of the Security Council, it said France supports robust and modern peacekeeping missions and contributes significantly to their operational budget.
Dr Anisuzzaman for persistent diplomatic engagement with S Korea
Since 1948, when the first UN peacekeeping mission was established in the Middle East, more than two million men and women have served under the UN flag in more than 71 UN peace operations, said the UN.
Over 100,000 military, police and civilian personnel from 119 countries currently serve in 11 peacekeeping missions where they protect civilians and support peace efforts.
This year’s theme, “The Future of Peacekeeping,” reflects the evolving nature of peace operations in a complex and rapidly changing world.
The UN is actively working to modernise and adapt missions for the challenges of the future.
